I started the first book because I received the second volume as an early review. I do know that first books can be weak and as a writer releases material they get better. Case in point....True Blood. The consistency of the uses of character names and sentence structure is weak. Some areas seem rather generic, such as the name of the agency and some of the conversations that take place between its members. I will flat out put some of the blame on the editors. I just did not find that very creative. I hate writing negative reviews but sometimes it is necessary. I found myself restructuring every paragraph into a better paragraph in my mind. But even though, it is always a pleasure to read. Good or bad it is a privilege to know that people have stories to tell and places to take us. One of the good things about this book is that the character personality traits and development is well done. The writer makes it easy to either dislike or love them. It is beyond obvious that a considerable amount of work was put into them. Kudos to the writer for that. The plot is strong and the premise is viable in more ways than one. I am eagerly looking forward to reviewing, Shadow, the second book in the series. The aftermath and pain of abuse is a tough thing to witness. The pain, desperation for some sort of sunlight to break through the clouds and the confusion of why it happens at all, coming from the mind of the victim is tough to read but very effective. ( )
