Christmas in Atlantis by Alyssa Day Prequel to the Poseidon’s Warrior series which is a spin of the Warriors of Poseidon series. Fantasy paranormal romance novella. Can be read without reading any of the books in either series although key characters from the first series make brief appearances. Just know that Atlantis has risen from its thousands of years hidden underwater and is interacting with today’s world bringing magic and the mythical to life. Dare is an Atlantian Pirate. He’s fallen in love with Lyric, a painter in St Augustine, Florida. As a pirate, he doesn’t think he’s worthy of her love. Lyric has her own art gallery and is not limited by her blindness. She has fallen in love with Dare but knows he is meant for the sea. They should talk to each other! Fortunately they do resolve their initial reserve and deepen their relationship. I enjoyed their self made romance title: The Painter and the Wicked Pirate. The wicked part was added as jest from their hot love scene. Lyric didn’t want her romance PG rated. Yep, they made it to an R as they commit to each other. Musical, mystical, and romantic. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

I don't want to need you more than air, or light, or life, but I do. You own me now—body and what's left of my blackened soul—and I'll never let you go. -Dare to Lyric The Gift of the Magi...in Atlantis A tortured warrior... Warrior-turned-pirate Dare is the black sheep of all Atlantis. He enraged Poseidon, the sea god, so much that Dare had to forfeit his ship and the water spirit who inhabits it. For Dare, being denied the ocean is worse than death...until he comes home to a woman who drowns him in waves of hunger more powerful than the sea. But black sheep and scoundrels can never deserve love, even during the magic of the first Christmas in Atlantis. An artist who sees the world through song... After the accident that killed her parents and blinded her, Lyric discovered she had a special gift—that of song sight. She now sees the world in her own unique way, and her paintings are full of light and magic. When the Atlantean warrior she's fallen in love with takes her to his home in Atlantis, she finds a rare magical artifact that could change her world forever. Or it could deliver to Dare the thing he most desires. Atlantis's first Christmas is coming... It's the season of miracles in Atlantis. A chance to make wishes come true. And when Lyric tells her new Atlantean friends O Henry's story of The Gift of the Magi, the world—and Lyric and Dare—may never be the same. Warning: This book contains magic, song sight, Atlantis, Poseidon, the gift of the magi, pirates, a king and queen, sibling rivalry, a black sheep, bad boys, warriors, paranormal romance, fantasy, Christmas decorations, holiday spiked eggnog, smugglers, ancient artifacts, romance, kisses, and a happily ever after. Having never read Day before, or the Atlantis series this is related to, I can happily report you don't need to have prior knowledge.
Dare and Lyric are a fairly unlikely pair, but they work together. Lyric grounds Dare, reminds him what's important and worth fighting for. Dare gives Lyric the strength and space to grow beyond her routines.
Some of it I side-eyed; the first scene with Lyric and the amethyst felt out of place in a way I can't put my finger on. And Dare's sudden EUREKA LYRIC IS THE ANSWER also felt a bit out of the ordinary.
And this isn't very Christmas-y insofar as I'm used to with holiday romances.
Overall though I enjoyed this story and feel it was a good start to my holiday reading. (
