Wild and wonderful Ivy goes away for the weekend and what happens sends her running. She crashes her car, and is set upon by a huge wolf. She doesn't believe it when he turns into a man, and one convinced she is his destined mate. Romantic, hot, and full of humour as Tyson is brought up to date with the ordinary world. Some very moving passages. Her best work yet. I never hide the fact that I am this author's biggest fan. She has written a character, prior to this that still is in my top five book boyfriends of all-time. So to say, that I wait on bated breath for new words from her, is an understatement. If I could clone her so that she could write faster, trust me, I would. After reading this story, I double wish for that clone because I need ALL of these shifters and their stories. ALL. OF. THEM. The world-building in this one was sublime. So much detail. There were times that this book was reminiscent of another favorite author of mine, and then there were times that it was uniquely her own style. I LOVE that about her. From the first encounter between Tyson and Ivy, I was all in. I loved getting a dual point of view so I could get into both of these character's heads. Even though this happened in a pretty short period of time, it didn't feel like it was an instant-lust/love type of cheesy romance which is good because I really struggle with those, so if an author can make me forget time and not make me roll my eyes it says something about their skill as a writer. It was fleshed out. Time seemed to slow down. I not only got to see the foundation of a storyline being set up for future books, and a relationship between the main characters, but I also got to see a connection form where a lone wolf suddenly had a pack. It was fantastic to watch unfold. The relationship between Tyson and Ivy was complicated. There was an ease to these characters, and I found myself discovering so much about them, just as they were also discovering things about themselves and each other. It made me connect with them even more. Sweet holy titfire, the steam between these two was FIRE. Some of her best work yet, and trust me, this author can write some steam, so that says something. However, it didn't overpower the story. It fit in the story if that makes sense. There is one scene that is pretty intense. It made my heart hurt but the way that they came to terms, and the sacrifices that were willing to be made to make amends with it made it all better. There is a twist that I didn't see coming in regards to how this connection was formed. I should have known, considering, I have devoured all of her other books, but it still had me laughing to myself at how wittingly she tied this story to another. I wondered how she was going to do it after it was hinted in another book (considering these were two totally different characters) but, even then, I still hadn't put all the pieces together until the very end. I live for moments when an author can do that. I could go on and on like my typical shiny squirrel self likes to do when I write a review for this author, but I won't except to say, that she once again took a sub-genre and ran with it. She knocked it out of the park. Alessandro from Saved owns my heart, but Tyson just gave him a run for his money and the start of this series just moved up to my new favorite. Until the next book, where I am sure she will have me eating these words. It was okay. The blurb tells us that the heroine hits a wolf with her car so meets the Hero, for me, I felt the start of the book got a bit bogged down with getting to that point. We have what felt like to me unnecessary long intro with the workmate/ friend and the cabin holiday, the setup, the people there, the con of what should have been a luxury break but wasn't, I wanted her to get on with meeting the Hero. There are some sort of dubious consent, it's overcome with the shifter, mate calling, sort of I don't really want this, but I do, I can't help it. The mating connection sort of makes it less dark that the author previous books. No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. The Hero is estranged from his pack which gives the author liberty to veer away from shifter theories and mix it up as she wants. Some voyerism. Some alpha male lines worked and some really didnt, for me anyway. HEA. I'm not sure if I'd read more in the series. It was okay. There was a time element that didn't make sense. The hero had time to learn a lot from books and such and also had time to try out more than 70 women while looking for his mate plus had time to commit a bunch of crimes for his uncle but later in the book but it is mentioned several times that he only spent a month each year as a man and the rest of the time as a wolf. Even if he did most of the learning and crimes as a child, how did he have time to get with 70 or more women? I guess he spent all his time banging.
