The fantastic cover of this little gem is so enticing, I couldn’t help but pick it up. Once I began reading, the house could have caught fire, and I wouldn’t have put it down. I may have run outside, but I would have kept reading this brilliant story. It’s a quick read, yet has that quality of atmosphere and pacing that puts the reader in another world. This time it’s the 1940s, the perfect setting for a story of mystery and suspense. What best describes the surprise and feeling with which this story hit me is a statement from the protagonist, Neale: “It was a Bob Feller fastball that had caught me flat-footed.” Even if you don’t know who Bob Feller was or are not familiar with the intrigue, romance, and patriotism of the 1940s, this is a story you shouldn’t miss. Bobby Underwood writes with such an accurate voice for the period, you’d think he was there, and better yet, that you were. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

I really enjoyed this short story. It was fast-paced and easy to read. It had some surprises I wasn't expecting. I was curious to see what was going to happen, why the man was following Neale, which girl Neale would end up with. I also liked how the story ended. I enjoyed the 40's setting.
Another wonderful read by Bobby Underwood. (
