Though this wasn't something I particularly disliked, this book has a lower rating than I usually would have given something like this because, well I think it should have been two books. A great story about a teenage girl overcoming hardships to really grow into her own skin, this book is full of fight scenes. Whether it's student on student or werewolf on student, it's exciting, but not as gory as you'd think. I received a copy as an Early Reviewer. I was intrigued by the plot, as I've always been a big fan of werewolves in fiction. The story itself was interesting; an abused girl ends up at a school to learn how to become a werewolf hunter. The pace moves rather quickly. It did have a very YA-feel to it. Another review mentioned that this would likely satisfy Twilight fans, and I agree. Although it was not a bad book, ultimately it didn't hold my interest as much as I thought it would. I love all things werewolf/lycanthrope, so I was thrilled to win this contest. I'll avoid the back-of-the-book blurb and recap as that's freely available on this page, and others have covered it. The book falls firmly in the YA camp and the heroine is relatable, with enough white, black and grey to be intriguing throughout. I'd think most fans of paranormal YA or old Buffy or Grimm fans would enjoy the story. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I won this book from Library Thing Early Reviewers. I really enjoyed this book. It's a supernatural YA book with a female heroine. I thought the plot was unique in its YA werewolves genre. It emphasizes the human character traits in werewolves. Mia, the main character, is saved by a werewolf when her abusive father nearly kills her in a fit of rage. Her whole world changes. Her uncle brings the fatherless Mia to the Hood Academy. The Hood Academy is an institute where werewolf hunters are taught combat. It was a fast paced book that I couldn't put down. I would definitely recommend it to other readers. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

After Mia’s father is murdered by what Mia knows to be a werewolf, with her mother already dead for a while and her brother missing, the only family she has left is her uncle Sebastian. He comes to pick her up and brings her to the school he runs, Hood Academy. Once there, Mia discovers that the school trains hunters – werewolf hunters. She takes the oath to become one herself. But things might be more complicated than Mia thought.
I like werewolf stories, but there was a little too much going on in Hood Academy. A little less would have been more and would have made the book stronger. Altogether, I’d say it’s not more than okay.
