I laid my husband to rest . . . Scott was my world and my future. His love for me transcended the dimensions of time and space-having made provisions for me in the event of his death. He was after all in a war zone and the odds were high he may not come home. But now I can't help but think about the new man in my life-my husband's father. Maguire creates a desire deep inside of me I never knew existed. This is more than lust. I keep on asking myself the same question. Have I fallen in love with him because he's so much like my late husband or because he's his own man? Only time will tell. After all, you can't choose love, it chooses you. Contains mature themes.… (meer)

One of my favorite things about books is that each reader can find something in them that makes them magic. That is most assuredly the case in regards to this book. I saw a few reviews that had left me concerned on whether I would feel that way and I can definitely say that I in my case this duet was perfect. I fell in love in the first book but I was totally gobsmacked with the second.

Normally, I am not a huge fan of taboo romances, especially ones with an age gap, but the premise of this one lured me in. Maybe it was the notion that there was a sort of permission with Scott's letter to his father. Not that this might have been the direction that he was expecting for Holland and his father...or was it? Maguire and his devotion to Holland and keeping his promise to his deceased son was inspiring. I admired him for so many things but his steadfastness had me swooning. I adored that initially, the author showed how much the Maguire and Scott were the same but gradually showed how different they were. I loved that he was a little more demanding and dominant in how he conducted himself. And how he loved Holland and his grandbaby it was definitely extra SWOON worthy.

The author also did an exceptional job with Holland. one of my favorite things, and something others did not like in their reviews, was how young she acted. However, she was young and very sheltered. She only knew what Scott had shown her before he died. At the age of 21, she was widowed, pregnant, and trying to find herself. I, too, would have questioned having very taboo feelings for my dead husband's father. Add in trying to balance those feelings with unfortunate happenings and I would have lost my mind and fought the relationship too.

When the steam really happens towards the last 25% of the book it about melted my kindle. Sweet Lord. HOT. HOT. Hot. The chemistry, the devotion, the angst, and the love were all here. The author gave me a gentle reminder that age is nothing but a number and that the heart wants what the heart wants. It also helps to have a little someone looking out too.

Be prepared there are some really sad moments, but there is also some pretty heartwarming and poignant ones too. My advice to anyone wanting to know whether to read this duet, YES. Find out for oneself whether this book works for you. In my opinion, it was magic. Fantastic Epilogue too. ( )
