Ahhh, I've given this 4 stars but written no notes - strange. Because this book was definitely a little different. An intergenerational love story, AND an intra-family love story - if there is such a word. I've had to read the summary to bring back the details.

Death won't stop me from providing for my wife. And because you're the best man I know, what I'm about to ask-my last request-I know you'll do. Please take care of Holland. Take her back to California with you. It's a lot-I know. But, I'm placing my most precious possession in your hands. Love, Scott But the thoughts swirling through my mind are certainly not what my late son had in mind. How do I resist this woman in front of me? After all, you can't choose love, it chooses you.

Maguire (father) gets thrown into the middle of it when he takes care of his son's wife, Holland, and she is expecting a child. The two have had almost no relationship, so on top of their grief, there is this new family they need to create, and a platonic relationship.

But Maguire comes to see why his son was smitten by Holland .. who up till now had not made an impact on Maguire. It's awkward. When he falls for her, reluctantly of course, but once done, he gives himself wholeheartedly to this new unexpected love.

His wide open affection for her is a beautiful thing, but it has to be navigated ever so cautiously because Holland is not going to 'leave' Scott (son). ( )

Enjoyable story. At first I was not sure if I was going to like this one. There was potential for creepiness. I was pleasantly surprised.
