This was a sad story of Indigenous families fear of being "rescued" by the white society of the 20th century. There is some hope but a lot of fear of being taken away. There are lessons for all of us in this story of family life before the first world war and beyond to the Vietnam War. Good prose and wonderful characters to be encountered.
