I really don’t know what to say about this…that isn’t going to differ from what I've said before about this very engaging series!

This is Book 3 of the Lacey Fitzpatrick and Sam Firecloud mysteries, and by now, it’s like meeting up with old friends. The ever-growing ease of Lacey and Sam’s relationship extends towards the reader and not only do you feel comfortable in their company, they’re almost like neighbours you've known a long time. That’s how Bowersock writes: effortlessly convincingly.


What I particularly liked in this story…apart, of course, from the couple's task of releasing the anguish from some ghosts who are making life a little difficult for the owner of a larger mansion…is that Lacey has some normal (as in not paranormal!) investigations to undertake. We finally get to meet her criminal ex boyfriend and we get to know a bit more about her life before partnering up with Sam.

Lacey and Sam’s relationship is largely professional…though her presence in his private life is increasingly relaxed. I’m starting to hope things progress…if you know what I mean.

I’m going to have to wait till Book 4, I guess, to find out if they do.

If you’ve read Books 1 and 2, you’ll be delighted with this third book and like me will be waiting eagerly for the fourth.

Ex-cop turned private investigator Lacey Fitzpatrick and medium Sam Firecloud have two cases under their belt and are finding firm footing in how to work their unusual partnership. Their next case involves an old Hollywood mansion that’s being turned into apartments. The owner needs the disruptive ghosts gone or she’ll lose everything she’s put into the place. While working on this case, Lacey gets a call from her ex who is in prison. He begs her to check on his elderly mother who he thinks is the victim of fraud perpetrated by his own sister. Because she likes his mother she decides to help.

Oooh, we get not one, but two cases in this story. Ok, only one is ghost related, but the other is satisfactory, too. Not everything in life (or these books) revolves around ghosts. I wish. Anyway, I’m really loving this series. If you’re looking for a quick paranormal mystery with crisp writing, great plot, and awesome characters then stop, drop, and roll. Or, pick up the book. This unique duo solves things on request with some supernatural clues, lots of due diligence, and perseverance. It becomes clear to them after solving this one that prosecution is not their only goal as the guilty have already died. In a mansion previously owned by former Hollywood stars the new owner is prevented from dividing it into apartments by manifestations. On a parallel, Lacey becomes involved in rescuing the mother of her rotten ex from a major problem. Another great cozy in series, but easily stands alone.
Laura Wilson is the gifted narrator. ( )
