The Way of the Brave puts the suspense into the Romantic Suspense genre. Unlike most of the books in the genre, this one does not have a human antagonist. Instead, the characters face off against the unforgiving Mt. Denali. Orion and Jenny are forced to face their past together in Afghanistan while weather traps them on the mountain. While the book got very technical on the ice climbing information, it was an enjoyable read and sets the stage nicely for Jake and Ham’s books. Readers quickly walk in the skin of Orion who finds himself in New York. A city he hates. But his former Navy Seal buddy, Ham needed his help. They had each other’s back. They’d been in situations that allowed them to know someone to the core of their being. “War jades a person but apparently not Ham who still believed God intervened in everyday life. They were both still puzzled about what happened to them in Afghanistan.”I liked how the author naturally wove in the faith element to the story between the guys on the team. I liked how the story took place in N.Y and out on the icy slopes of the Alaskan mountains. I was blown away at how the author pulled out all the stops in this nail-biting romantic, suspenseful story and this is only book one. I felt like I was on the side of a mountain in Alaska as this former military team sets out to rescue an all-female climbing team who has run into an unexpected storm. This adds more danger to the mission than anticipated. On top of that the military team thinks someone is out to kill them. This is a fast paced, breath taking journey of danger, suspense, and self-discovery with characters I could root for. This team battles unimaginable circumstances as they try to bring everyone to safety. Just when you think it’s OK to breathe peacefully again the author surprises the reader with more plot twists and turns. This is one fun ride that will make you want to stay on the ground. Look forward to reading about this teams next adventure. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, Netgalley. I got this through the early reviewer program, and I think that maybe I just wasn't the right fit for this book. I don't read romance too often these days, but when I do, I want it to be a little steamier than what I got here.... but that said, it was a pretty good book. The characters were well developed, the plot believable and with enough action to keep the reader engaged.geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

The elements of faith were well shown throughout the whole of The Way Of The Brave, as much as I’ve enjoyed Warren’s former works this is a new favorite with the way she handled the characters’ growth, healing (emotionally and mentally,), and the end was superb if disappointing since we have to wait for the next book to know what happens after that crazy good cliffhanger!
Having seen Ham in other books it is wonderful to know that he’ll be in the rest of this series, and maybe, just maybe, hopefully, get his own book which has me so exasperated that I can’t get my hands on The Heart of a Hero, and I love the names of these books in the series, they are just so perfect, and go wonderfully with the brave characters in the series.
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
