Based on true accounts of how Parisiennes resisted the Nazi occupation in World War IIâ??from fashion houses to the city streetsâ??comes a story of two courageous women who risked everything to fight an evil they could not abide.

Paris, 1939. Maison Chanel has closed, thrusting haute couture dressmaker Lila de Laurent out of the world of high fashion as Nazi soldiers invade the streets and the City of Light slips into darkness. Lila's life is now a series of rations, brutal restrictions, and carefully controlled propaganda while Paris is cut off from the rest of the world. Yet in hidden corners of the city, the faithful pledge to resist. Lila is drawn to La Resistance and is soon using her skills as a dressmaker to infiltrate the Nazi elite. She takes their measurements and designs masterpieces, all while collecting secrets in the glamorous Hotel Ritzâ??the heart of the Nazis' Parisian headquarters.?But when dashing RenĂ© Touliard suddenly reenters her world, Lila finds her heart tangled between determination to help save his Jewish family and to bolster the fight for liberation.

Paris, 1943. Sandrine Paquet's job is to catalog the priceless works of art bound for the FĂĽhrer's Berlin, masterpieces stolen from prominent Jewish families. But behind closed doors, she secretly forages for information from the underground resistance. Beneath her compliant facade lies a woman bent on uncovering the fate of her missing husband . . . but at what cost? As Hitler's regime crumbles, Sandrine is drawn in deeper when she uncrates an exquisite blush Chanel gown concealing a cryptic message that may reveal the fate of a dressmaker who vanished from within the fashion elite.

Told across the span of the Nazi occupation, The Paris Dressmaker highlights the brave women who used everything in their power to resist darkness and restore light to their world.

My first novel from Kristy Cambron makes me wish I’ve read her back-list before now!

I’ve heard many many goo things about her, which, may have put “The Paris Dressmaker” on my want to read list in the first place, or it was the stunning cover, or maybe the attention grabbing description, I don’t really know for sure. What I do know… Is that I LOVE this book!

I do not often find a duel timeline novel that pulls me in quite as well as this one did, the jumps can be confusing, they were just slightly so in “The Paris Dressmaker” but I found that the plot was easy to follow, the character were oh so very real, and the story was a masterpiece!

I am thrilled by the whole of this story, the elaborate details, the richly and very terrifying history of the Nazi, and the glimpse into the brave things men and women did to fight back in secret were all so thoroughly woven together that I couldn’t help getting lost in the pages of this story.

The way that the two time lines came to connect was done in a way that pulled me even deeper into the story, not annoying me in ways others have done so, I highly enjoyed this novel and can’t wait to read more from a new favorite author.

My closing note would be that I was happy to see the way Cambron kept the story true to the era, without giving too little or too much detail into the sick minded Nazi and the men who attempted to rule the women in the overrun countries.

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. ( )

I just really could not get into this book. I found it difficult to follow and the characters were too similar and they ran together. ( )

Lila de Laurent once worked for Chanel. Now she must do whatever she can to survive as the Germans threaten to occupy Paris. Saundrine Pauqet has already felt the sting of the war, as her husband has left to fight and she bears the burden of caring for her son and Mother-in-Law. These two brave women gradually become members of La Resistance - using their skills and their cunning to secretly keep records of the thousands of artistic works that the Germans loot from the Jews as they occupy Paris. They are live constantly in fear of being discovered, but along the way they find allies - new comrades and old friends - who band together with them to resist the Germans. As the story flits back and forth between the two women, and between the early and later days of the war, the reader gradually learns how their two stories are related, and how the bravery of women like them allowed the world to know just what the Germans did while Paris was occupied.
I greatly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It does jump around quite a bit, so readers who have trouble tracking stories like this might prefer the print version. But the audiobook does have wonderful narration with the French words and accents giving the story just the right feel. Fans of WWII historicals will love this take on the occupation of Paris - especially if they enjoy fashion and art. ( )

I had a hard time with the back and forth from the beginning of the war and the last year and then flipping back and forth between characters. It's not always that way with me in dual time books, but usually the times are farther apart.
All said, the book has motivated me to watch "The Monuments Men" again. ( )

An endearing premise and a gorgeous cover had me eagerly awaiting to get my hands on The Paris Dressmaker by Kristy Cambron. When looking at the reviews I can see I am in the minority but I really struggled with this novel, to the point that I did even complete it, only skimming to find out the outcomes of one of the plot lines that had slightly intrigued me.

This is the first book that I've read by this author and though her writing is engaging, the dual plot lines had my head spinning! I didn't have time to read for long periods of time, so every time I picked it back up it took a few pages to get my bearings (or even flipping back to the beginning of the chapter to see who I'm reading about and what timeline they're in). Normally dual time lines do not bother me, and I actually enjoy them, but I got lost so much, buried in so much information, that I fought the entire time to connect with their characters or their unique plights.

As I ponder this novel, my mind keeps going back to why the author felt like she needed two different timelines for this story? I could've seen either story actually being strong enough on their own, as the overall premises are quite intriguing, I just felt like the bond that connected the two stories together was just too weak, and would've preferred reading them separately.

Another item to note is the fact that the market is completely saturated in World War II historical fiction, which I do not mind at all, but since there are so many you need something special about your war story that is going to grab the reader and leave an indelible mark and The Paris Dressmaker only left a mark of disappointment.

*I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own. ( )
