Celebrate a Season of Wonder and Waiting Though the holidays are often jam-packed with busyness, the weeks leading up to Yuletide are still a time to reflect on the miracle of Jesus's birth. Shadow and Light is a concise and customizable guide for the Advent season to help you rediscover your childlike wonder and contemplate the sacred gift we celebrate in the Christmas season. From bestselling author Tsh Oxenreider, Shadow and Light is a rich yet approachable experience that invites you to explore the historical meaning of Advent. Drawing from liturgical tradition, Tsh provides fresh insights for new and longtime believers alike. Each day includes Scripture, a reflection, a question, and a simple activity to engage the senses, such as lighting candles, listening to music, and viewing artwork both old and new. Let yourself break away from the hustle and bustle of crafts, cookies, and Christmas parties, and receive your invitation to remember the quiet focus of our celebration. Shadow and Light will help you reclaim the holiday season as a time to remember Jesus's first coming, and to long for his one-day return. Bestselling author Tsh Oxenreider longed for something simple and quick, so she created Shadow and Light, a beautifully illustrated, scripturally based Advent devotional filled with music, art, and action activities to enjoy with your family. Tsh Oxenreider is a bestselling author, as well as travel guide, teacher, and top-ranked podcaster. After founding the long-running online community The Art of Simple, she now publishes her popular newsletter, Books & Crannies. Tsh and her family have traveled the world and lived all over, but are currently happy to call Central Texas home.… (meer)

This is the first year we really dove in and did Advent as a family. It was fun to be able to read this each night as a family. I like the layout of the book and look forward to returning to this each year. We paired it with a children's Advent book that has one illustrated door that opens with a piece of the story each day. Tsh's focus on celebrating the quiet moments and letting them draw you closer to the real meaning of Christmas would particularly fitting this year. ( )

This is a beautiful, thoughtful, reflective, and gentle companion for entering advent with a grateful heart, prepared mind, and anticipatory spirit.

Although I think you will be drawn to this if you are a follower of Christ or desiring to experience Advent, it is respectful and accessible to anyone in that broad definition. It isn't formulaic or intended to feel like an obligation because if it does, what's the point?

Each day features a short reading, a piece of music, and a piece of art to reflect on.

It is an approach to advent that could become a ritual or a family tradition to be looked forward to year over year. Every year the experience will be a little different because every year, you're a little different.

This is well done and ageless - it feels effortlessly current and enduring at the same time without trying too hard to attain either. Advent/Christmas and the New Year is my favorite time of year hands-down, despite this not being my favorite year by a long shot.

I definitely recommend this it's a book I'm glad to have bought, happy to own, and will pull out around Thanksgiving every year. The fact that it's beautiful to look at and to touch is just the cherry on top. ( )
