A biography of Frida Kahlo's life organized by topic or lessons that the author takes from her life. A cool way to structure the book but it led to some repetition. And the audiobook might have missed the design and structure of the book. I went to an exhibit about Frida recently, and this book helped re-enforce and extend some of that learning. ( ) This book starts with the cover. It's bright yellow and cheerful with Frida's face on the front just like we remember her: flowers in her hair, rosy cheeks, earrings hanging and bright red lipstick - and of course, her connecting bold eyebrows. The book is filled with interesting parts of her life with happy and sad days, love and misery, finding friendship and her participation as a "daughter of the revolution." It's filled with inspiration on how Frida was able to overcome pain and heart wrenching times with her love with art. She lives for the magic Diego Rivera brings to her heart yet manages to look the other way with his other relationships. This book is a keeper for rainy days when anyone needs a little push. If there's anything I would want to add, it would be photos of her art pieces. Glad to have a laptop nearby to take a glimpse while reading. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
"A contemporary guide to life, love, and happiness inspired by the extraordinary artist Frida Kahlo. Revered as much for her fierce spirit as she is for her art, Frida Kahlo stands today as a brazen symbol of daring creativity. She was a woman ahead of her time whose paintings have earned her generations of admirers around the globe. But perhaps her greatest work of art was her own life. What Would Frida Do? explores the feminist icon's signature style, outspoken politics, and boldness in love and art, even in the face of pain and heartbreak. The book celebrates her larger than life persona as a woman who loved passionately and lived ambitiously, refusing to remain in her husband's shadow. Each chapter shares intimate stories from her life, revealing how she overcame obstacles by embracing her own ideals"-- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
