This is the great classic biography of Napoleon, just as it was first published in 1926, with the cover here being the original cover on the 1926 work. This book has been reprinted many times, by many different publishers. Here we are using the original 1926 First edition. There have been many other biographies of Napoleon. What makes Emil Ludwig's work the most famous of all is his literary style and presentation. The book starts with "The Island," and then follows with "The Torrent," "The River," "The Sea" and finally concludes with "The Rock." This biography by Emil Ludwig (1881-1948) is at its best when dealing with the personality and the character of Napoleon. He brings Napoleon to life. No other writer has done that so well and it is for this reason that this biography is the most famous.… (meer)
A most curious biography as it has resonances with the author's own life (real name Emil Cohn) as an exiled Western German Jew originally from Breslau, Silesia, now part of Poland. He made his home in Moscia, Ascona, Switzerland, but left in 1940 for the US and then returned after WWII where he died in 1948. He was neighbors with Max Emden and Paulette Goddard in Moscia (where I had a twenty year association and lived for two years). ( )

A very colorful and romanticized history of the life of Napoleon Bonaparte, his entourage and many of the royal personalities of that revolutionary period. An interesting read filled with much dramas, vivid scenes and exciting confrontations. ( )

"I have never yet heard my own heart beating; it is almost as if I had none," he says, half seriously. Moderation, he assures us, is the secret of his amazing faculty for work.

Thus, likewise, for the reader of these pages should be reconstructed the tragedy which once only in a millennium a mortal man has created out of his life. What a man can attain through self-confidence and courage, through passion and imagination, through industry and will, he attained. To-day, in the age of the revolutions which once again are opening every path to the man of supreme ability, the ardent youth of Europe can find as an example and a warning no greater man than the one who, of all men of the West, made and suffered the most violent commotions.

In some languages, Emil Ludwig's "Napoleon" was published in two Volumes. This is the Main Volume; please do not combine with the Volume 1 or Volume 2.
