It shows that no matter where you come from, you still belong. It is a feel-good book. ( ) As a fan of Lil Nas X, I was so excited to find his book in the library and scooped it up as soon as I could. Lil Nas X is such an amazing artist, and now he can add amazing author to his list as well. ABC/Alphabet books are all the same- lets teach kids the alphabet- but Lil Nas takes it a step further by making this a diverse ABC book. He is a member of the LGBTQ community, and he is African American. He broke through barriers in country music that have never been broken before, he mixed rap and country, and shot to fame because of it. His book is all about his childhood growing up in the country with a loving, supportive family. His message is that of accepting who you are and loving yourself, because each person has so much potential. He asks children to love one another for who they are no matter what their background is. The nods to "Old Town Road" and "Panini" may go over some children's heads, but as someone who is older, I recognized them as popular songs Lil Nas X has released. The illustrations made me smile. They are well done and remind me of cartoons I would have watched as a child. The colors were bold, and each illustration complimented each letter of the alphabet featured.
