Forensic photographer Miranda Rhoads moves temporarily to Lost Beach to get over the PTSD she suffered after an extremely difficult child murder case. While photographing birds, she runs across a canoe with two dead bodies, and she is thrown right back into the world she left behind. Detective Joe Breda is assigned to the case, and asks Miranda to use her expertise to help find the killer. As connections are made to previous cases, Miranda and Joe find their attraction to each other difficult to resist.

Flight is a good addition to The Texas Murder Files series with a dandy mystery and two likable protagonists. A large percentage of the story is focused on the mystery and side characters who are part of the investigation or are suspects, taking away from the romance. There is an impersonal detachment that makes it tough to connect with the characters or feel any emotion. However, the mystery takes a twist near the end that creates a satisfying conclusion. Overall, Flight is an entertaining novel but offers nothing unique to grab the readers' attention ( )

I've started rounding up my ratings. Really a 3.5. Probably will not follow this series. ( )

Miranda is on hiatus from her job as a forensic photographer and is renting a beach house for however long it takes to get over a case she worked. Decompressing, she's taken a photography job to take pictures of specific birds for a calendar (she's a bird nerd anyway). Prowling around in early morning looking for the perfect light she stumbles across two dead bodies. She takes pictures and submits them to the police where she comes under the attention of Detective Joel Breda. Joel & the department are short on staff and he offers Miranda a job as the CSI photographer. It's a double sided coin because he's attracted to Miranda and she's also excellent at her job. She's also attracted to him and isn't looking for a relationship. Another murder draws them closer together while fighting their attraction and trying to find a murderer. Seemingly unrelated murders occurring years apart start connecting to a group on the terrorism watch list and Joel & Miranda must catch the killer before they to become victims. ( )

Former forensic photographer Miranda Rhoads moves to the seaside town of Lost Beach to make her living as a wildlife photographer. One morning, she comes across a couple in a canoe, entwined in an embrace and realizes they've been murdered. Detective Joel Breda sets out to find answers--not only about the unidentified victims in the marshy death scene, but also about the aloof and beautiful photographer who seems to know more about his investigation than he does.

This had a decent mystery, light suspense and likeable characters. Miranda and Joel end up romantically involved but the story had more investigation than romance, which I prefer. This was an easy read and I would read another in this series. ( )

I think this is my first book I have read from this author, and I felt drawn into the story from the beginning! Twins separated and unknown to the other, I felt sorry for her. She changes careers and discovers a couple sleeping in a canoe, but she soon discovers that they are dead, now she is the next target on a serial killers list! I wish I had read book one, but Miranda kept me HIGHLY entertained. ( )
