This novella has left me needing to dive into a Mary Queen of Scots rabbit hole. Mina quickly hooked me into the brutal world of politics and royal life in 16th century Scotland; not a surprise really, considering I have enjoyed her other crime novels set in contemporary Scotland. Recommended. ( ) A plot to remove Mary Queen of Scots from power. Mary's own husband was in on the plot. They need to remove Mary's private secretary David Rizzio from his position of influence in order to succeed. How better to do that than assassinate him? This story follows the coup as carried out as well as the actions of and consequences to Mary and her husband. It's a well-told story and can be read quickly. David Rizzio was the private secretary to Mary, Queen of Scots. Denise Mina's new book tells the exciting and gruesome tale of his bloody assassination in 1566, a story of sex, secrets, power, and palace intrigue. This short novella is a quick read but steeped in atmosphere. From page one, the book pulls you into the sinister plot. The point of view drifts from character to character, giving the reader every nuance of the assassination and its aftermath. Rizzio is the perfect book to curl up with on a winter afternoon. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
