Good beginning, but petered out quickly. ( )

Los ''curadores'', con sus musculosos y fuertes cuerpos escondidos tras negras capas, se mueven sigilosamente por las calles de la ciudad recogiendo indigentes y, sobre todo, curando enfermedades y proporcionando esperanza a los desahuciados. Usan un virus adaptado al genoma de cada paciente para eliminar enfermedades geneticas hasta hoy incurables: la enfermedad de Parkinson, la corea de Huntington, la fibrosis quistica, etc. Pero ese mismo virus, cuando alcanza a otros seres humanos, es el vector de una muerte segura tras escasos minutos de atroces sufrimientos. La Agencia de Riesgos Biologicos (ARB) enfrentada al peor virus conocido, ha de recurrir a la ayuda del doctor Frank Hartman, un brillante virologo que parece haber desarrollado un antivirus eficaz. Los ''curadores'' son tambien seguidores de un nuevo culto religioso y de un nuevo Profeta que promete un futuro sin enfermedades y una mejora de la especie humana gracias a su dominio de la medicina genetica. ¿Cual ha de ser el mejor futuro para la especie humana: el que propone ese visionario Profeta o el que defiende la ARB?

I adore Orson Scott Card. I think that he's one of the most imaginative authors of our time. Invasive Procedures, a joint effort by him and Aaron Johnston was exciting. I don't usually like thrillers, which this definitely was, but I enjoyed it. In this story a geneticist goes a bit bonkers and creates a religion of sorts with him, of course, as the fearless leader. He has the ability to change a person's DNA to make them stronger, healthier, and cure genetic diseases by injecting them with a virus designed just for them. Exciting and scary! A good summer read. ( )

I thought this picked up speed nicely as I read, the story pulling me along. I also liked that the ending wasn't tied up in a perfect bow. ( )

a renegade geneticist is nearing completion of his plan to 'uplift' humanity, with himself in control. A Biohazard Agency agent stops it all from going down. I suspect that Card's name was on this more for sell'ability than anything else. A nice light read. ( )
