"A filthy, uproarious, outrageous novel from the brilliant and twisted mind of John Waters"-- "Marsha Sprinkle: Suitcase thief. Scammer. Master of disguise. Dogs and children hate her. Her own family wants her dead. She's smart, she's desperate, she's disturbed, and she's on the run with a big chip on her shoulder. They call her Liarmouth--until one insane man makes her tell the truth."--Book jacket.… (meer)

Sorry, oh Great Pope of Filth, as much as I love your movies, I just could not with this book.

While it was funny hearing John Waters describe the insanity, crime, debauchery, and general fucked-up-ness that happens in the audiobook, I stopped paying attention after the plastic surgery for pets place and the bouncing gang getting addicted to Magic Fingers.

It is kind of cool and weird to see where Waters imagination goes when he isn't limited to the realm of what he can accomplish on film, but I guess this book was just meant to not be enjoyed? ( )

A series of more and more over-the-top incidents don’t make a plot ( )

If you’ve seen a John Waters movie, you will definitely be able to envision the contents of this book as you read it like it’s already a film (which I hear the film adaptation is already in production- exciting to see him back behind the camera). Waters is truly a wordsmith, finding the most creative ways to write the crudest sentences you’ve ever read. He is one of my favorite writers and people in general for the way he crafts his sentences and finds ways to tell convoluted stories about (purposefully) terrible characters, but still manages to keep viewers and readers hooked. I will not tell you anything about this book besides it is crude, unserious, and unapologetic- and I 100% recommend it! ( )

Well, this was a reading adventure.
Not gonna lie, if it was ANY other author I would have stopped reading it after 50 pages or so.
But it was a necessity to find out what happened to all these strange beings.

Movie in development stages. Color me intrigued. Gonna need A LOT of CGI. Haha.

Reading it was like an audio book. Totally heard his voice narrating it.

John Waters is not well, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Well John Waters’ book “Liarmouth” has seemingly done something impossible - it actually makes me want to stop at the James Fenimore Cooper rest stop on the New Jersey turnpike - just so I can stop, match the real place up, and imagine events described in the book as happening there. This is not a book recommend. If you’re thinking ‘it’s a novel, it can’t be as filthy, disgusting, and absurd as his early films, right?’ It’s gotta be more Hairspray than Pink Flamingos, right? Think again. It is funny, though. Characters eat, do, and say disgusting things, and few are likable, but they're all funny. But I’m not responsible, you have been warned. Waters’ affection for his native Baltimore (if you can call it affection) is on full display as well. It was on the New York Public Library's 'recommended reads of 2022' shelf in midtown, so, go for it.
