I'm continually impressed with this series -- the books are so short, and you'd think would be pretty repetitive (there are a LOT of clubs), but somehow Nuurali manages to tell a completely different story every time, and they all have great messages. This one is about Sadiq's video game club finding a way to connect with seniors at the assisted living facility his Hooyo volunteers at. While I have to wonder about seniors using tablets (can you tell I have a super technology resistant parent?), the idea is solid and based on community, and that's a message I want to see. Sadiq and his friends are starting a video game club at school and planning a tournament for the whole school to participate in, but their teacher reminds them that they also have to have a service pledge, and they are not really sure how video games fit in with the goal of helping others--until a visit to an assisted living home where his mother volunteers gives him an idea.
