The world building was done well and I particularly enjoyed the fact that the author created a language for the Magyki and was able to use it enough that it felt natural without going overboard or frustrating for the reader to not understand what's being said. The translations for said language was usually right behind the phrase itself in a way that felt natural and not out of place, and when a translation was not given, it was easy enough to understand through context clues what approximately was being said. I do wish that we got a few more scenes with Vera and Eithan, to kind of flesh out the idea of why she might be more inclined to stay in Aleron, rather than go to Bhasura. As it stands, it seems she's been lied to her whole life, and even when told the "truth" by the Emperor, it's still lies, whereas Jaren may have withheld telling her all of the truth at once, but he never outright lied to her. Personally, apart from Elric and Trey, I can't see a single reason for Vera to stay instead of going to Bhasura where she can get all her answers. I'm very interested in what the next book brings, and what Vera learns, but even more so in what she will do with that knowledge. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)
There were several things Vera was quite skilled at. Wielding a blade and pretending to be human were two of them. Following the rules and controlling her anger, were not.Raised in the heart of the Matherin Empire, Vera spent most of her life forced to hide what she was and what she could do. Until one day, she foolishly confronts a strange male she spies tailing the Crown Prince. Not only does the altercation not go as planned, but the male claims she possesses a power his people vitally need. He's desperate to return home and refuses to leave without her.Staying would give her a life she never thought she'd have but leaving could provide her with the only chance to learn more about her past. The more answers she uncovers about herself, the more questions arise, and nothing is adding up. Vera must decide what to do, not only with her life, but with the ancient power inside her. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
