She somehow manages to give us the ugliness of this reality of our world and the hope that those stuck in the darkness sometimes hold onto through Lilliana. She is a strong character, and we see her story through her eyes through the first part of the book, making the discoveries and realizations right alongside her. From her point of view, we’re not sure whether we trust Meric or even like him. And for those of you who enjoy the marriage of convenience trope, this book is for you. Not only do we get the marriage of convenience, but we get it in a high-suspense book that kept me turning the pages. Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. All opinions are my own. Another excellent book by Melissa Koslin. With action from the first page, we are thrown headlong into a dramatic story of secrets, suspense, and wonder. The story kept me guessing right up to the very end. I love how the romance blossomed slowly over time despite the obvious (to the reader) connection the characters have to one another. I also enjoyed the slow unravelling of motivation and history of the characters so I wasn't confident in who the true villian or hero were until almost the end. If you enjoy marry first and fall in love later type of stories but with intense fighting scenes - this book is for you! TW for human trafficking, but not graphic. This was a book about human trafficking. At times it was hard to read. Liliana has just escaped from the men that were holding her captive. She's at a gas station and doesn't know what to do when a man helps her get away and offers her marriage to protect her. She agrees and goes to live with him, but he's obviously hiding something. This book kept my interest as I wanted to know what was going on and I wanted to see if she'd end up being free or if they would capture her again. I wanted to know what was going on with Meric and what he was hiding. I was a bit frustrated at times though because it seemed a bit unrealistic. Especially with her English. She can't understand English really at all in the first chapter and then she is quite fluent? And she's using big words that are fairly complicated? I know she was studying every day in the apartment but it still didn't quite ring true for me. Overall though it was an interesting book. I don't recall any language and there is no sex scenes, but it does mention some heavy things in regard to human trafficking so if you're sensitive to that then be aware of that. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. This should have been a great book with a topic of human trafficking but fell so short. By page 10 I knew exactly where this book was going and what the ending would be. Took this book to a friend just to make sure I didn't miss something, and she came up with the same review. Sorry, it's missing a good story. I received this book from librarything.com and Revell Books for an honest review. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Liliana Vela hates the term victim. She's not a victim, she's a fighter. Stubborn and strong with a quiet elegance, she's determined to take back her life after escaping the clutches of human traffickers in her poor Mexican village. But she can't stay safely over the border in America--unless the man who aided in her rescue is serious about his unconventional proposal to marry her. Meric Toledan was just stopping at a service station for a bottle of water. Assessing the situation, he steps in to rescue Liliana from traffickers. If he can keep his secrets at bay, his wealth and position afford him many resources to help her. But the mysterious buyer who funded her capture will not sit idly by while his prize is stolen from him. Melissa Koslin throws you right into the middle of the action in this high-stakes thriller that poses the question: What is the price of freedom? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
