I'm interested in writing fiction, and finding out what other mom's who write novels and short stories do to make it work. I'm sure that this book would be very good for someone who was interested in being a freelance, nonfiction writer, but it really wasn't worth the time it took me to read it. ( ) I've been wanting to read this book all year and it fulfilled all my hopes. Writer Mama is a comprehensive guide for a stay-at-home moms (or anyone tackling multiple jobs at once) to enter the freelance writing business. It covers a variety of ways to do this, starting modestly with tips and fillers to compile "clips," and the moving up to articles for national publications. The tone is upbeat and helpful, and never annoying. It feels like someone is taking you by the hand and showing you the basics of freelancing and encouraging you to start generating ideas and your own expertise. Some of the chapters left me feeling inspired, while others like the chapter on interviewing reminded me of how inept I am socially. But those will be my own demons to address as I expand my writing career. I'll definitely be purchasing a copy of this book to keep. The advice for starting a freelance writing career is straightforward and practical, especially how to start off small and work your way up to bigger publications. And by doing just the first few exercises in the book, I got a ton of ideas for articles I could write. If you're interested in writing fiction, some of the advice will be helpful to you, but in general the focus was on nonfiction freelance writing for magazines, newspapers, and so on. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
