This is a well-written and accessible introduction to the Wars of the Roses. Each campaign is dealt with in a separate chapter with a couple of chapters looking at the politics and personalities involved. This form of military history is seen as being a little old fashioned but there is still a place for straightforward analysis of what happened when, and why it happened. A complex story well told (I couldn't put it down) without being swamped by political and economic detail. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
This volume offers an account of all the battles of the Wars of the Roses. Emphasizing the strategies and tactics employed, the author describes when and why the various factions arrived at a given battlefield to fight for their causes. Although much is known about the social milieux of the period and of the political machinations that led to the wars, Haigh 's account gives descriptions of when and why the various factions arrived at a given battlefield and how they fought once the battle had been joined.
