Born in 1940 (the year of the dragon), Bruce Lee became one of the most infuuential martial artists of the twentieth century and redefined the action-adventure film genre. Even after his premature death at the age of thirty-two, Lee continues to inspire fans around the world.

Despite his fame, little has been known about much of Lee's life. The Dragon and the Tiger explores the intense, formatve period during which Lee developed his revoutionary martial arts style with his close friend and training partner, James Yimm Lee, in Oakland, California. James was a Bruce Lee's mentor and host, sharing his home with the ambitious youth and his new bride, Linda Emery. James's son, author Graglon Lee, grew up in this dynamic household and shares intimate memories, personal letters, and family photos. He vividly describes endless workout sessions that were the cornerstones of the training philosophy the young master eventually created. Using traditional techniques as a foundation for free-form individual expression, Lee codified these principles into his own fighting cocept: Jeet Kune Do, 'The way of the intercepting fist.'

The first book in a new series presents little known facts and previously unpublished photos of Bruce Lee's early life. Born Lee Jun Fan in San Francisco, Lee became a successful child actor in Hong Kong but had yet to find his calling as an adult. In his late teens, he returned to America and began a journey that took him from New York to Seattle, where he first introduced his brand of Chinese Gung-fu, to Oakland, where he met and befriended James Yimm Lee.

Through this unique biography of the legendary martial artist, a new generation of readers will learn how Bruce Lee and his closest collaborator, James Yimm Lee, lived his philosophy during 'The Oakland Years.'

Sid Campbell of Oakland, California, is founding president of the World Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do & Kobudo Association, and helped introduce the art of karate to the Western world. Ranked as a 9th dan, Campbell has taught over 15,000 students, helped award 800 black belts, and supervises over 48 schools around the world.

Graglon Yimm Lee is a practitioner of Jeet Kune Do, a promoter of civic functions, and a co-producer of martial arts instructional videotapes. Lee is an active member of the JKD world and resides in Berkeley, California.
