The public thinks he's a motorcycle cop, but he's a civilian, and an inexperienced rider at that. This new job as a police motorcycle escort for funeral processions is the best job he's ever had, affording him respect and dignity that has so far eluded him. But can he make ends meet, pursuing his interest in bikes and cemeteries, leading to a better life? A colorful cast of characters help and hinder in his struggle to find meaning as they deliver the hearse and the deceased on its final journey to the grave. With constant reflections on mortality and a distinct sense of humor, Edwards tells his story with unflinching honesty and insight.… (meer)

I enjoyed the audiobook format. While I enjoyed aspects of the book and found some humour in it, other parts of the book were a bit repetitive. While the book is about a funeral motorcycle escort, there are other storylines woven into the primary motorcycle theme, so people outside of motorcyclist enthusiasts can enjoy the story. Ultimately, there will be stories and memories shared within the book that most readers will be able to connect with. ( )

**I received a free version of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.** Steve Edwards is a gifted storyteller. The problem with this audiobook is there was no story to tell. By setting the book up as a chronological retelling of each ride as a motorcycle funeral escort, the reader feels they are hearing the same thing over and over again. And Edwards provides nothing as the book continues to show any change or growth in himself or others. On the plus side, Edwards beautifully describes the scenery of the area and provides vibrant descriptions of his fellow riders and of the characters he meets at the funerals to which he is assigned. I definitely received this book, but it looks like i deleted the email from the publisher and then lost the book in a computer-meeting-wine incident. Apologies to the author and I am happy to read and review it if they contact me and send me another pdf!

Tombstone Express is quite a different book in subject area and style than most books I read. I found the book to be interesting, but in need of editing and more proofreading for sentence structure. The book is more of a journal of the different funeral escort rides by the author than a narrative of the escort activity. I enjoyed the honesty and compassion that the author has toward the various people he meets in the process of doing this job. I would have liked to see the whole process of becoming an escort officer written in more of a storyline. The growth of the author in his personal life was also an interesting aspect of this book. I would like to see the author take this book and use it to expand it into a more well rounded book that tells his story not so much as a journal, but as a process from where he started to where he finished. The best written chapter is the last chapter of the book where he seems to put the whole experience into perspective. ( )
