This is a good informational book to inform children about the different types of earthquakes and how to be prepared for when it does occur. I am not sure how to use this for a lesson plan other than reading it to the class on earth day or after a earthquake occurs so they can learn better as to what they witnessed themselves. The theme is science, environment, earthquakes. Seymour Simon is at it again with another great non-fiction science book that is just jam-packed with information on earthquakes. It tells of past earthquakes, explains what is going on physically with the earth that causes an earthquake, and where danger zones are. Then it goes into detail about how to measure and compare the sizes of earthquakes and which scales have been used by scientists globally. Last it tells students what do in the case of an earthquake, it just doesn't get any better than this when you want a gripping and informational book for you class. This is a fair introductory book to earthquakes. It gives information on what causes earthquakes, why earthquakes take place where they do, and some of the effects of past earthquakes. Photographs are used to support the information and a glossary of terms, a subject index, and a short list of extension sources are given. Some of the drawbacks to this book are that there is no table of contents or subjects headings on the pages. Because it is a survey book, it does not go into any real detail about any aspect of earthquakes. Appropriate for ages 5 to 9. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
