Rakish is definitely an enigma. I didn’t know where his brain or his heart was most of the time. One minute he acts like he loves Sheetal and then the next…! But, she is not completely innocent either. Now, keep in mind this is a different culture. But, I wanted to teach her a lesson or two about graciousness. She acted a bit spoiled in places. But, she is in a unique situation that is very uncommon in my world. So, I gave her some leeway. Rakish I did not…I wanted to really do some damage to him!
I love how the author brings to light so many issues in this area of the world. This is probably the main part of this story which resonated the most. The differences between the men and women, the family dictations, the wealth and the poverty are all well displayed in this tale.
There is so much that I enjoyed about this book. The location, the culture, and the intensity. I did get a bit frustrated with the characters in places. But, I just couldn’t stop reading about them! I enjoy a book which can override my frustrations with a fabulous story!
