Doretta Schwartz used to be so happy and passed her positive attitude along to friends in several letters she wrote each month. But that all changed the day she learned of her fiancé's death and a heavy weight of depression fell upon her. Feeling empty, she puts away her letter writing and won't even respond to calls from friends. William's twin brother, Warren, is also grieving his loss, while at the same time, trying to be supportive to his parents and Doretta. Doretta responds to Warren's friendship, but is he just becoming a replacement for the once-in-a-lifetime love she lost?… (meer)

Another fantastic book by Wanda Brunstetter! Her writing never disappoints! It's wholesome Amish fiction from beginning to end!

The characters are relatable and genuine! Doretta experiences a huge loss and falls into a deep depression. Through letters of comfort from her dear friend, she starts to live again. Eleanor is the friend everyone should have. Her faith in God is exemplary!

I like that Wanda talked about depression. Many people suffer from it and are reluctant to get help. Wanda offers hope and encouragement through her words! ( )

Letters of Comfort Book 2 is a wonderful book full of Family, Faith, loss and love. This book just wrapped itself around my heart. I truly enjoyed Letters of Comfort and I highly recommend it! 5 Stars!

I received this book for free. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own. Thank you to Mrs. Brunstetter, Barbour Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this delightful book. ( )

I really enjoyed this book filled with romance, Amish culture and dealing with depression. I loved Warren and Doretta and how they helped each other after the loss of William. I loved how Eleanor helped Doretta through letters. I received a copy of the book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will. ( )

Doretta Schwartz used to be a happy person and passed her positive attitude along to her friends in several letters that she wrote each month. All that changed the day she learned of her fiance William’s death and a heavy weight of depression fell upon her. Feeling empty, she puts away her letter writing and won’t even respond to calls from friends. William’s twin brother, Warren, is also grieving his loss, while at the same time, trying to be supportive to his parents and Doretta. Doretta responds to Warren’s friendship, but the question is has he just becoming a replacement for the once-in-a-lifetime love she lost?

Letters of Comfort is the second book in the author's Friendship Letters duology. While we all know Amish fiction ends on a positive note, don't let that make you believe that the plot is simple. Brunstetter gives us several twists and turns in Doretta's recovery as well as showing how deep someone can fall into depression. In many ways it is a medical mystery novel albeit one that is light and in which you can predict a lovely ending. The Author's Note tells us that she intended to write a book with depression as a theme.

I was surprised to learn that Doretta's boyfriend William was not as good a person that she originally thought he was. Was it necessary to show this in order to make his twin Warren look good? I kind of wish he remained the perfect person. Nevertheless, Letters of Comfort is a primer on what lies beneath a person's exterior. ( )

Remember when writing letters was a chief source of communication for everyone? I was always so excited to find a letter in my mailbox and this new book is a lovely reminder of that simple joy. In Letters of Comfort, it's Doretta Schwartz's turn to find encouragement and solace in the letters that she exchanges with her friend Eleanor Lapp. Doretta's grief over the death of her soon-to-be husband has become her constant companion and she's also recovering from the injuries she received in the tragic accident. Will Eleanor's letters pull Doretta from the depths of depression that threaten her once cheerful existence?

Author Wanda E. Brunstetter is known for writing encouraging stories of family and faith and Letters of Comfort is no different, but there's also grief that comes from tragedy and the feelings of depression that often occur in the aftermath. This is an emotional story of learning to accept loss, attempting to find a new normal, and welcoming second chances. The letters between Eleanor and Doretta add a special touch. and there's even a recipe for Doretta's Apple Muffins. I recommend this book to all who enjoy Amish contemporary fiction and look forward to the third book in the Friendship Letters series.

I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts. ( )
