A faithless adaptation of A. A Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh shoves Tigger in where he doesn't belong to wreak almost amusing chaos on the familiar stories of Pooh getting stuck, Eeyore's tail getting lost, Pooh and Piglet setting a Heffalump trap, etc.
For example, when Pooh gets stuck in Rabbit's door, Tigger arrives as a "Logistical Expert," sort of taking over the "I'm not in the book" role Gopher played in the first Disney Pooh adaptation. The mantles he assumes just get increasingly ludicrous from there and end up hijacking entire scenes.
Most of the rest of the characters stay true to their original incarnations, though throughout the play Owl is called "Mr. Owl" so the script can make a dated and forced reference to an old Tootsie Pop commercial.
On paper, this silliness doesn't really work for me, but I have an inkling that if I saw it actually performed by an enthusiastic cast I might end up laughing along with it.
(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:
