The author, Kelly Barker, introduces us to a character named Zoe, a character who links the worlds of reality and fantasy. Zoe is a hairdresser by day and by night she transforms into an imaginative author. The author portrays in her character, Zoe, the agony and ecstasy an author experiences during a book writing process.
Zoe’s writing is a combination of her real life and daydreams, which gives an eerie feeling. At first, I questioned Zoe’s sanity. I thought maybe she was schizophrenic confusing reality with fantasy. Her writings are magical in that what she writes comes to life.
She tries to balance work with finding time to write, date a new boyfriend, and contain the characters that come to life who are now wreaking havoc. Re-writing her story isn’t helpful once the demons are set loose from her story.
Her writing is amazing. She’s got vampires, a phantom dog, plesiosaurs, and other beings to keep safe. Zoe learned a life lesson to not create beings and unleashing them into the world without consequences; especially when it came to creating the Kraken. ( )
