A poorly written pamphlet ( less than 50 pages of actual text) with a misleading title covering the run up to World War 2 from the perspective of a future US Senator. Three stars for getting this story told, even if so abysmally. I never even knew that Hitler's book was expurgated, copyrighted and defended in the US by it's American publisher. I wish there had been explicit delineation of exactly what passages were altered in the original US edition that Cranston expanded upon. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
In 1939, a 24-year old American journalist, recently returned to New York City from Europe, discovers that Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf--as published in the United States--is an abridged version. Critical passages of the original Nazi manifesto were missing. Using Hitler's own words, he translates and writes an annotated condensed version of the original Mein Kampf, to expose the full measure of Hitler's evil ideology and chilling anti-Semitism. The publisher of Mein Kampf sues for copyright infringement. This short historical non-fiction book is about the people and events that shaped the young journalist's life. It recounts his determined pursuit of the truth to alert Americans and the world to the danger that Hitler posed in the months before Hitler's army invades Poland and ignites WWII. The journalist was Alan Cranston, future Senator from California, leader in the U.S. Senate, and candidate for President of the United States. He dedicated his life to public service, nuclear arms reduction, and world peace.Author Lorraine H. Tong served as Senator Cranston's foreign policy aide and advisor for eight years.
