I had heard of Rosa Parks, but I did not know much about her background of what it was like living in Tuskegee Alabama. The events and things that left an impression upon her in childhood helped to shape her role in the Civil Rights movement. As a child she lived in fear that the KKK would come and burn their house down and kill them. No child should ever have to deal with that kind of terror! The way she was forced by segregation and forced to feel less than human is appalling to me. Her mother was a source of strength and taught her how to be proud of herself and other black people who had to stand against societies' rules. She became educated at Alabama State College, and went on to marry a barber, Raymond Parks. This book tells of how she was involved in the NAACP to help African Americans find better housing, employment and good lawyers. I did not know she was involved in the voters league. I was aware of the bus ride that made her famous, but until I read this book, I did not know her background much at all. I also did not know she had met with Dr. Martin Luther King. The book was easy to read and comprehend. I believe this book would be a good historical biography that 2nd through 3rd grades would find to be easy but yet very informative. ( )

Rosa Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on February 4, 1913. Rosa Parks name before she got married was Rosa McCauley. Rosa Parks favorite classes when she was a little girl was sewing. Rosa had worked at seven jobs before.Rosa Parks had been mistreated by bus drivers before the incident.

I really enjoyed reading and comparing "Rosa Parks" by Eloise Greenfield to "I Am Rosa Parks"by Rosa Parks. Both books mention where and when Rosa Parks was born and also both book hint at how she did not fear anyone. In both biographies it is mentioned how Rosa Parks disagreed with segregation. The basics of who Rosa Parks married and major events are covered in both books.

However, "Rosa Parks" by Eloise Greenfield goes into more detail. "Rosa Parks" by Eloise Greenfield gives the reader more insight on Rosa Parks life beyond segregation. The book also mentions more events and outcomes Rosa Parks witnessed that where because of segregation. In the book "I Am Rosa Parks" by Rosa Parks it doesn't even mention that Rosa Parks knew Mr. Nixon until after the incident on the bus. In the book "Rosa Parks"by Eloise Greenfield it mentions that she was a member of NAACP and knew of Mr. Nixon before the incident on the bus.The book "Rosa Parks" by Eloise Greenfield also mentions Rosa Parks was not the first to refuse to give up her seat on the bus. The book also mentions Mr. Nixon bailed her out.

The book "Rosa Parks" by Eloise Greenfield is written beautifully. I liked how detailed the book was. I learned more things about Rosa Parks that I honestly didn't learn until now. I also liked how the book was detailed about segregation beyond the information about Rosa Parks. The book captured a lot of good detail about reactions from the KKK after the supreme court made the bus system change and allow everyone to sit where they please on the bus.

Additionally, I liked the pictures and how realistic they where drawn. The pictures gave a good visual to the words as I read. I think the pictures went well with the book because it is a good visual for students to imagine the history of the United States. The pictures also can help readers see how things were so different compared to present day America. ( )

Rosa Parks is a chapter book and it is a biography. The book talks about how she changed the world but the detail is limited. The words were big but the pictures were not as capturing as they should be for a children's book. Depending on the age, some kids may not find it interesting just because it is very dark and the pictures are not as prevalent like other books. It is a great way to start a discussion about Martin Luther King and you could go into further detail after you read this book ( )

Rosa Parks is 32 page biography about Rosa Parks that talks about her strong personality and why she what she did changed history. The book talks about how she always had fight in her and goes a little into detail about what was going on in history during the time that Rosa Parks felt she had to stand up for her self.

I thought that this was a good, book. It was short and to the point. There were illustrations throughout the book to help get a visual of what was going on. The font was large which make the book a quick read for children.

I would read this book during black history month, we would do a study on Rosa parks. I would have a group discussion with the children about what they would do it they were in her situation.

This book is a great depiction of the plight of black people living in the Civil Rights Era. This book presents Rosa Parks as a courageous, mild mannered woman who stood up against injustice in a time period where civil tensions were high. Her act of defiance inspired a whole community, which inspired a whole nation, to fight for equal human rights. I greatly admire Mrs. Parks for her character. ( )
