This is actually a textbook with questions after each chapter. But it was anything but boring. Very interesting and informative. It goes into the chemistry of landfills and various waste. How to get the energy from waste. How much space the landfills take up. Mining current landfills for energy. Looking at garbage as a commodity, not a problem. Also talked about the Fresh Kills landfill in NYC that closed in 2001 but reopened after 9/11 to take care of the debris from the WTC buildings. They used it to sort through body parts! As populations continue to increase, society produces more and more waste. Yet it is becoming increasingly difficult to build new landfills, and the existing landfills are causing significant environmental damage. Finding solutions is not simple; the problem is enormous in size, vital in terms of its impact on the environment, and complex in scope. This book provides a vast look at solid waste management in North America and seeks solutions to the waste crisis. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
