I love this book for multiple reasons! This lively picture book can be very appealing and engaging for young children. It shows a story of companionship between a boy and his dog, which can be relatable to children. This is a cute and short chapter book that can be an easy read during students reading time in the classroom. Children are able to go on the adventure’s with the two main characters as they read, which is an important aspect in children's literature. Henry wants a sibling, or at least friends to play with on his street, but his parents say no to siblings and to moving. However, they say yes to a dog, and that's how Henry finds Mudge. Mudge grows and grows until he is enormous, and Henry feels safe and happy with his new friend. One day Mudge goes for a walk alone and gets lost; Henry searches for him and finally finds him, and the two stay even closer to each other after that. A classic, gentle story of companionship, with many more in the series.
