This is the first time I have read this author and from the reviews that I went through after starting the book, I didn't think I would enjoy it at all. However, the book was well written. I did enjoy it, although it tended to make me upset and mad at the same time. When an author can make you feel these emotions and dislike the characters in the book, or pull for another character, they are doing a good job. Abuse is a terrible thing, and in this book, there are many angles to it. Not only emotional, but physical as well. There are always ups and downs in relationships, and the good and bad will always be there. With the child in the middle of this "triangle" it made it even worse. Children are innocent, as you will see in this case. Kyle was an amazingly strong character who was brilliant with his manipulative ways. (I hated him!) He talked with a golden tongue and ruled with an iron fist! Sometimes you have to learn the hard way and in the end that makes you a better person. That is what Pier did. Without going into too much details as to not spoil this book, I will end with saying, "Always go with your gut feelings first". ( )
