Was it murder, suicide or an accident? The story starts with a single mother seeing a neighbor appear to fall out of the sky. Another British crime story that pulled me in enough that I wanted to get to the end to see who the culprit was. A fairly quick easy read. ( )

Liked the main character, trying to cope with returning to work after a year's maternity leave, dealing with being a single mom of twins, not enough money, not sure where to go next... and then thrust in a weird way into being the primary suspect in two murders. How she copes with life while figuring out whodunit makes for an interesting story. Started slow, I almost gave up on it, and a lot of the end happened while she -- the narrator -- was unconscious, which I found an abrupt and unappealing change of perspective. But in the end there was more I liked than didn't about the book. ( )

Robin Ballantine, a single mother, is planning on returning to work after a long maternity leave. She has given birth to twins and her life for the last year has been totally wrapped up in them. As she looks out her window, she sees a neighbour fall to her death. Starting as a witness to this event, we slowly are shown the connections between the deceased and our heroine. Suddenly another death occurs, this one definitely murder and Robin as the number one suspect. Overwhelmed by the attention from both the media and police, she realizes the only way back to her own life is for these deaths to be solved.

The book started slowly for me, but with the second death the pace picked up and became quite an engrossing story with some good plot twists. I found Robin Ballantine to be likeable and I was glad to see the book address the problem of “crime solving” and babysitting, along with career points and money issues, all of which I am sure a single mother would have to deal with. So all in all, a good read. ( )

A young single mother (Robin Ballantyne) witnesses a tragic death - and it hurls her into a sensational murder investigation. Then the father of her twins is run down and killed and Robin is the primary suspect. This is a British novel - and I was surprised that I liked it as well as I did - I don't usually care for European books. ( )

really getting into the mystery genre. i love the beginning-- a woman gazing out the window, thinking about her deceased husband...and a body falls down in front of her.
