As the Holocaust was taking over Europe these boys and girls found ways to survive in a terrible time. They disguised themselves and saw things unimaginable, they all hoped and believed to survive and these are accounts from their past as children during the Holocaust. Personal Reaction The courage and bravery these children had is so inspiring during this time in history. This is a very historical and detailed account of nine little children and it is great. Classroom Extension Ideas: 1) Show a map of Europe and show what region the Holocaust took place and where each child is from. 2) Ask the children to write a paragraph on their interpretation of the children and what thy went through. 4 stars. This book contains 8 condensed stories of child survivors. Their stories are amazing and heartbreaking. All survived terrible conditions, and all of them had an amazing determination to live. I learned new things... like the St. Louis, and de dodentrein - the train of the dead. It's just heartbreaking to think of so many children being separated from their families surviving any way they can. It's a powerful book and I'm very glad I read it. 4 stars.
