Every woman's secret desire...is to have a 'her indoors' to do the chores. 'What you need,' said Saffron, pouring Alex another glass of wine, 'is someone to take away your worries, someone you can rely on, someone to deal with all the boring details.' 'But I've got a bloke already,' protested Alex. 'No, no!' replied Saffron. 'I mean, what you need is a WIFE.' On the surface, Alex Hill is every inch the polished high-flying career woman. But that just means she's rushed off her feet with barely enough time to take out the bins, let alone pull together an amazing product launch. Then she discovers her Spanish cleaner has been using her flat to turn tricks in the afternoons, and in her bed! And to top things off, her demanding mother - an ageing 60s-style icon - has a bad fall, requiring her to move in with Alex indefinitely. With so much to juggle, Alex begins to realise that she needs someone more committed than a cleaner - so she advertises for 'a wife'. Enter Ella - a brilliant cook and carer. But Ella isn't quite what she appears, and pretty soon Alex is contemplating 'divorce'...… (meer)

What woman working outside the home has not wished that she had a “wife” of her own. Someone who would cook, clean and efficiently complete all the daily chores, so she could come home, put her feet up and be “done for the day”.

As if juggling her home, her job, her boyfriend and her friends is not enough, now Alex’s diva like mother has had an accident and needs round the clock care. An off-handed remark by a friend prompts Alex to place an ad in the classified looking for a part-time “wife”.

Alex does not get quite what she bargained for but the results were very funny. This was another fun book.

I liked the premise, but none of the characters really grabbed me - I laughed at loud at the first scene but after that I think it took itself too seriously and lost the humour. A little too ordinary and predictable for me. ( )

Alex Hill appears to have it all, she's a high-flying marketing executive of a global sportswear company but she's starting to question her constant moving and the fact that she's never home and never seems to have any relaxing time. One day she arrives home to find that her Spanish Cleaner has been using her flat to turn tricks (which leads her to throw out her bed, sheets and mattress), then her mother has a fall and has to move in with her and she's trying to organise a huge launch, a luanch that could make or break her career and it looks like almost everything is going wrong. When her friend Saph jokingly suggests that she needs a wife she realises that this is what she needs. Which is where actor Frankie comes in, only it's his sister she hires.

It's light fun, nothing special, though I do have a minor quibble with the covers. She's described pretty much throughout (except one scene where it's marked as a departure from the norm) as living in sportswear but all the covers seem to depict her as more mumsy.

The audio was quite well narrated by Kim Hicks, with only one minor flaw in the narration where it skipped a little. But it was only very minor and didn't really interrupt the flow. ( )

I had to pick up this book based on the title. Between work, commuting, reading, blogging and my daughter I would love to have a “wife” to help with dinner, cleaning, etc. I did guess what was going to happen about halfway through but it was still a fun read. Frankie was a great character that you can’t help love. His sister, Ella, was a pain in the butt and I might have missed how old she was but sometimes I felt like telling her to get with the program. Alex’s character was ok, she didn’t really grab me nor did I dislike her. Some of her actions made me scratch my head like why she would stay with her boyfriend who was obviously a jerk and I thought she blew things way out of proportion with the Bean, Saff and Frankie. Like I said you can pretty much guess what is going to happen with Alex, who the saboteur is and what Saff will end up doing. Still if you are looking for a light and funny read this is one to pick up. ( )
