Making the transition from grade school to middle school can be a very scary experiencebut girls don't have to navigate it alone! Here's a book by five savvy and extremely smart girls written when they were in middle school for girls just like them. With straight-from-the-heart advice on everything from dealing with being popular (or not!) and staying true to yourself, to handling more responsibility at home and at school, this is a girl's ultimate guide to surviving and succeeding in middle school on her own terms. Including a foreword written by the editor-in-chief of Girls' Life Magazine, this how-to will resonate with readers!

While reading this book I thought about how useful it would have been to me as a person transferring from elementary school to middle school. This book teaches it's readers how to deal with middle school. It talks about boys, periods, bullies, and how to choose your friends. I feel like this book would help a lot of girls that are nervous about going to middle school. The book starts off by stating the differences that the reader will see when going into middle school. For instance, instead of having the same people in your class, you will have different people in different classes. It also talks about the differences you will see in people. For instance, it states that you will see multiple different cliques in which you will eventually be in, unless you're a loner. The reason I said that this book would have been extremely beneficial to me is that as a middle school student I was very shy and didn't put myself out there. The book states repeatedly that even if you do not know anyone, you should still put yourself out there and meet new friends. The book also tells its readers to believe in themselves and be confident. I feel like it emphasizes the fact that you, the reader, needs to become comfortable with who they are and express themselves , no matter who is around. The book also repeats that one should always be themselves. I learned that this book was actually written by five girls when they were in middle school. I found that information very insightful and inspiring. It also made their words more reliable because they were writing this book while going through these situations. ( )

Addresses an interesting variety of subjects that face middle school girls. I found it borderline ridiculous, but as a middle school girl, I probably would have appreciated it more. Rather than illustrations, every few pages has a highlighted section which may include a series of helpful tips, an interview, or checklist. ( )
