Winner of the Green Earth Book award in 2008, and winner of the Amazon Editor's Picks: Top Books for Kids award in 2007, Winston of Churchill is an inspiring picture book about the effects of global warming on a community of polar bears living in the town of Churchill, Manitoba. Winston of Churchill is an excellent public speaker, author, and community leader. He rallies his polar bear compatriots to finally do something about the melting ice-caps and save their home. It is a wonderful way to introduce young children to the effects of global warming on our planet, and make them aware of how their future actions may effect the environment. I highly recommend this book for environmentally-savvy parents who wish not only to educate and amuse their children, but also remind themselves of the harsh effects of their own actions on planet Earth. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Winston is worried because the ice of the Hudson Bay is melting sooner each year and he and his fellow polar bears have less time to hunt for food, but he comes up with an idea that will make the tourists who come to see the bears realize what is going on. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

In Winston of Churchill: One Bear’s Battle Against Global Warming we meet a rather unique polar bear. Winston is fearless and powerful. When he calls his compatriots together, they listen intently to his warning, “The ice is melting. We are losing our home. The time has come for action. This is no time for ease and comfort. It is the time to dare and endure.” Winston urges the bears to fight for ice. “We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields and in the streets. We shall fight on the hills. We shall never surrender.”
Delivering a positive message that many individuals, making small changes can have an impact on global warming. Winston of Churchill is a very enjoyable read aloud. Clever wordplay and illustrations will be thoroughly enjoyed by adults as well as children.
