Espionage This is the third part of the Kane and Abel trilogy, although after a sparse few words with Florentyna actually being in the active part of the story is very limited, almost to her being talked about more as of an aside than actually having any real impact in the book. I understand this is a severely rewritten book that Mr Archer haphazardly rewrote to make this into the 3rd part of the above trilogy. It is sloppily rewrote to include Florentyna in anything really more than the first couple chapters, after which it pretty much flies as it was with not much added to the original to make it anywhere close to what the first 2 parts had going for them. This was shabbily put together solely to make more money as part of a trilogy where this book was not originally any where close to that. It looks to me like Mr Archer ran out of steam after the second book and didn't have any idea as to how to properly finish off the series. So he takes this book that was previously written and hacks it together with duct tape and bailing wire just to make the trilogy and to get the nice paycheck at the end of the day for completing that part of the contract. This really has put me off from buying any other books by Jeffrey Archer. The first 2 books really had me turning pages and wanting to see what would happen next. The third book had me turning pages trying to find out where the bodies were strewn in haphazardly trying to getting this book to press. I love Jeffrey Archer’s books and have read several of them. This was written decades ago and can still compete with the more sophisticated books of the present. Marc Andrews is on his own to find out who wants the president dead. Time is running out as he tries to eliminate the suspects. The suspense builds as the danger closes in on him. For conspiracy theorists, this is a book you will want to read. I always figure, it is someone close to you who poses the biggest threat, because you believe and trust them. They can look you in the eye as they lie and plot against you. Such is the case here. Be sure to look to your right, left, front and back as you turn the pages. You never know where the strike will come from. I still think of the Kennedy assassination and whether or not there was a government conspiracy that brought him down. Why would that be so impossible to believe? Our government is no less greedy and corrupt than any third world country. How far would someone go to achieve their goal? Look around at present day events and you may find your answer.
