This sure is a quirky little one, but the beauty of the writing cannot be denied. I found it a bit over the top/graphic sexually, but I suppose she was trying to make a point. I found the characters extremely interesting, although Mary's spiritual delusions kind of wore thin. But the novel is so short that before anyone annoyed me too badly, it moved on to the next person. There are some absolutely wonderful captures of early motherhood though. Worth the read, but did not blow me away. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Mary is a new mother transformed by the birth of her baby; Walter, a lonely gay Episcopal priest, privately struggles with his contradictory desires; and John, a monk who has left his monastery after fifteen years, craves intimacy with a woman. With mesmerizing prose, Darcey Steinke weaves together the lives of these three characters in ways that explore the intersection of spirituality and sexuality and reveal how even our rawest, most confused impulses may contain elements of the divine.
