I have to admit, I'm a little dissatisfied by the direction of Lawrence's storyline. Not that it wasn't another good book in the series, but I regret their decision to commit treason. Even though what the government did was wrong. ( )
It might be that I'm grouchy rather than the book itself, but it didn't really feel completely beginning/middle/end to me. It's not as much of a cliffhanger as the last one, but... ( )
Took me a while to really dig into, but I took a month or so off from the series at what seemed like a natural stopping point. The plot is as interesting as ever, I like how they don't shy away from Laurence and Temeraire's decision at the end of Book 4, but the pacing and narration seemed a bit off. Normally I always feel like Novik is guiding me by the hand through an incredible world, this time I felt like she rushed ahead and I had to jog to keep up. ( )

De langverwachte invasie van Groot-Brittannië is eindelijk in aantocht. Napoleons enorme legers hebben zijn greep op het Europese vasteland versterkt.
