I thought I ought to read one of these popular romances before I die. A young Englishwoman and her wealthy Italian lover work through a series of misunderstandings until they reconcile. The woman, though blind, is independent minded and enjoys risk-taking activities, such as scuba diving and parachuting. Her lover, however, is overly protective. That's one theme. Also, her lover has insecurities, having been viciously rejected by his "father" when his father found out he was, in fact, not his real son. That's the second theme. Last, the blind woman, though adventurous, comes to understand that the thrills she seeks through parachuting, etc., can in fact be got by submitting to her lover. That's a third theme. The three themes are brought together when the lover agrees to serve for a time as the woman's guide dog.
