Perret is not the felicitous writer that Manchester is, but the book is well-done and informative. Perret is very candid and judgmental. He calls Manchester's book very pro-MacArthur, and he is right about that. But while Perret is more caustic, he says MacArthur was not the greatest soldier in American history--he was the second greatest! Perret says Grant was the greatest because he caused the President he served under less problems. This is a good book, well worth reading. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
In the first cradle-to-grave biography of MacArthur in nearly 20 years, Perret reveals new information and offers fresh insights into this landmark figure of American history. From his obsessive interest in becoming the most highly decorated soldier in American history to his disastrous flirtation with presidential politics, MacArthur is revealed, warts and all.
