A really great look at the conflict between Scotland and England in the years 1542 to 1551. Merriman delves into the subject in great depth and yet addresses the wide international scope of the Rough Wooings. While the author does skip around a bit in an nonlinear fashion and at times appears unsure of the direction of his narrative, the solid research and attention to detail makes this work an excellent study of the conflict and one of the best overviews of 16th-century Scotland I have encountered. Mary Queen of Scots was a daughter of debate from the week of her birth. The Rough Wooings for her hand in marriage were the last major war between Scotland and England. This is the story of her beginning, which involves the major figures of early modern history - such as Henry VIII and Francois I. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
