The story is of a poorly supervised little girl that is supposed to be taking a nap with her enormous Rottweiler dog. The two however do not take a nap and spend the entire day having all kinds of indentures away from the house. In the evening the mother comes to check on them and is surprised to find how tired they are. Even without words the story is easy-to-follow and I'm certain that kids would enjoy pointing and looking at pictures. I love the illustrations, and the story of this almost wordless picture book is just too sweet for words. Carl's Summer Vacation brings back all kinds of fond memories for me, as I well remember using our own dear Rottweiler as a pony when we were little; we could do anything with her, she was the most wonderful playmate (and the scene where Carl and his rider jump over the family of skunks, so cute). And although our mother would never have left us alone with the dog, if she had, my siblings and I would have been in good hands. A wonderful picture story for anyone who loves dogs, and it is so refreshing to see Rottweilers depicted as the wonderful, loving and fun animals they so often are. I am bathing warmly in the waters of nostalgia; Carl's Summer Vacation book is just so wonderful and endearing. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
