This is a sweet little book about two bears, a cub and an adult. I found it reminiscent of Frank Asch's "Just Like Daddy" in that the youngster (in Frank's case, a boy) wants to grow up just like his parents. I actually prefer Asch's book because there's a little funny twist to the story, but Emma Dodd's book is very nice and would make a good bedtime story.

This book is not a boardbook, but it's pages are sturdier than normal.

The artwork is simplistic but very appealing. It shows a big bear and a cub doing bear things, like swimming, trying to catch salmon, and scratching high up on a tree. The color runs from page edge to page edge and is very soothing.

The fact that the 'adult' bear is not given a label lets the reader determine whether it's a mother or father.

There's a common refrain in the book which is, 'I want to be like you'. Dodd adds a nice twist to this at the end of her book where she has an additional thought: "When I grow up, I want to be all the things that make me... me!"

It's a nice read-aloud intended for toddlers and preschoolers. **Above Average**
