Eines der immer lesenswerten, ich möchte fast sagen, Essays von Ken Thompson (Prof. an der Uni Sheffield, die sehr innovativ an Garten- und Landschaftsthemen herangeht). Alles drin, was mensch wissen muss zum Kompostieren. Also, worauf warten? ( ) This book provides gardeners with an easily digested introduction to compost making, with lots of practical advice. It covers how to get the right carbon-nitrogen mix, describes different compost bin designs (both commercial & home made) and wormeries. Unlike many books it doesn't assume you're gardening in a huge stately home or municipal park, but instead looks at how to make composting work in modern, small, urban gardens. Its a really good introduction to the subject and I think the best recommendation I can give is that this copy was bought for me by a Garden Organic Master Composter! Short and sweet, this how-to guide presents an easy-to-understand overview of the science of composting and explains how the reader can get started on his or her own compost pile. From what to (and what not to) compost to building your own bin, this book has it all. Additional nice touches are the large and plentiful photographs (a DK standard) and supplementary material including an annotated webliography and an index. The only reason I felt so-so about the book is that I felt I knew the majority of information it contained from what I gleaned on the Internet and learned from the trial and error of first-hand experience. Only the science behind compost was new to me, and while that was interesting, quite frankly it’s not necessary to know in order to begin composting yourself. I can’t recommend anyone shell out $18 for what you can learn from an afternoon’s research online. However, if you can borrow a copy from a friend or local library, then this is a good book for a newbie composter. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
